It´s finally here! Disgaea 3 arrived and as you noticed I haven´t been either online or anything for a couple of days. Two reasons for that:

1: I had to build my new desk which took longer than I expected.

2: Playing Disgaea 3.

So where should I start? I have no idea where I should start actually. So I´ll just babble randomly to see if I can get a satisfying result.

Story

Mao, the nr 1 honour student at Evil Academy is filled with rage, his father crushed his portable game system and with it, a save of 4 million hours gameplay.

Thanks to that Mao is set on defeating his father. But how does one defeat an Overlord?
After countless hours of research into anime, videogames and manga Mao has figured it out! You have to be a hero! That is the only way to defeat an overlord.

With his trusty butler Geoffrey he sets out to find a hero, luckily there was one on campus so Mao cornered him and brought him “in” and stole his title of hero.

Quest completed, then he fought against his father, or rather his hand(hell that´s one huge hand!!) and lost, even though with the power of being a hero!! Wait a minute, Almaz wasn´t a hero, only a hero wannabe. SHOCK!!

But something is happening with Mao as he has the title of hero, hell he´s even starting to act like he has a heart. Or so it seems but he is actually a real meanie, being the Nr1 Honour Student at Evil Academy means not going to class, being mean and evil and if anyone is against you, beat them to a pulp.

Characters

Mao – the nr 1 honour student with a EQ of 1,8 million, even so he´s not so bright and has some issues, like wanting to kill everyone who has salt and pepper on their sunny side up eggs…

Raspberyl – the biggest delinguent of Evil Academy, she goes to every class and has perfect attendance, hell she even voluenteers for work and drags anyone she can with her!! She must be mad.

Almaz – The wannabe hero with a big crush on his princess. Quite nave and isn´t up to much unless it´s working for Mao, getting your title switched and becomming more and more like a demon is bad for a human…

And that are the main characters I´ve gotten and faced so far. Haven´t played that much yet. It just takes time.

Battles

Disgaea has always been about two things, battles and humour. We get both here in Disgaea 3, the geopanels have gotten themselves and upgrade and become geo blocks, which you can use to stand on or throw them at panels like hte geopanels worked.

What is new is that if you have a lot of the same geo blocks stacked on eachother, if you throw one of the same colors against or on top of those blocks they all dissapear, any enemy/character standing on top of them when they dissapear falls and gets hurt much like when you change the colors of a geo panel if you´re standing on it.

Another new thing for the battles are skill merging, have a special skill you like? Try using that skill together with any other special skill, it might create a more lethal version.

Blade rush for example, I thought it would be nice if it turned out to be a X-slash like in Chrono Trigger where Crono and Frog dash trough the enemy and love and behold, it worked like charm

Magichange is also a new thing. Every monster can change into a certain weapon that is then used by the character it did a magichange with. They gain new abilities and even have a special move of their own. The setback is that if the magichanged character dies then both characters die. And they inherit all aspects, so if you mix a prinny with a thief(which is good since the prinny turns into a gun) and then throws this thief she goes BOOM since she is like a prinny.

And the magichange only works for two rounds, after that the weapon dissapears and you´re back to normal.

The way you aquire skills are also new, since you have to buy them with mana… quite boring since mana is the only thing you have to use on creating new characters, passing homeroom classes, getting evilities, getting new skills, uppgrading these skills and just so much.

Evilities are somewhat of special abilities, every character has his/her own special ability. Almaz take less damage from higher level enemies for example while Mao is stronger the more enemies there are on the screen.

Every character has his/her own sets of evilities to learn and they vary. Mao can learn to get a 10%+ on his HP stat while Almaz can learn to get double healing from healing spells. The only setback is that you can only have two of these at the same time, atleast for now.

Classrooms and placements mean a lot since you have to place two characters in the same club if you want to magichange, if they are placed next to eachother in class they have a higher rate of making a teamattack so there are so much to say and I´ve forgotten about some stuff I think.

Comedy

A trademark of the Disgaea series are a lot of quotes. So far I haven´t written that many down, but Mao quotes Laharl with “What´s yours is mine and what´s mine is mine” so there are a lot of stuff going on that you just have to love.

For one quote that appears just in the beginning of the game

Good boys shouldn´t be in school.

It really says it all. A school for demons, going to class makes you a delinquent and that is bad.

Finishing touchs

Hel I love this game. I thought I liked Disgaea 2 but this is way better on every front. I can tell you it looks brilliant in HD on the PS3, attacks are new and just wonderful.

I can see that this is one title I´ll be playing for a long long time. From what I can see though there is one thing I´ll be missing. A pure winged slayer attack since the new versions seems to have a triangle instead of a 3×3 pattern so for power leveling I guess I have to get every character up to date with a Big Bang attack. Which is kinda tedious.

For the catlovers, fear not as the Hell Kitty from Makai Kingdom is here to stay. As cute and deadly as it was in Makai Kingdom Only this time it can´t attack with a ball & chain or morningstar, it slaps you dead with a fish instead. It magichanges into a fist as well so for fist characters they make a good combo.

There are so much to say and I can´t really spell it out since it would spoil to much. I´ve heard people talking about the story being to much a like the original Disgaea but so far I have to disagree since sure the whole emotions part is something that has been in with all Disgaea games, but other than that this has little to do with the original. Atleast for a first impression.

Can´t talk much more, have to start playing again!! I only have a couple of days left before school starts to get serious. So I have to play as much as possible.

But I do recomend that you get yourself this title if you liked the two earlier games.
