Yes, this new layout is so sexy

So, yet another post about the new layout. As you can see from the previous version it´s going quite smoothly and I´d say I´m to about 98% finished.

What I need to decide on is the sidebar, if the blogroll should be there or if I should change it. Having one long blogroll that makes the whole page layout go haywire is not an option. But I´m wondering a bit on what else I should put there. Probably the tags will be going there. Along with the categories, but I´m not sure about that.

One idea I have is to use the Post Thumb plugin, but I can´t get it to work at this moment. If I can get it to work then it´ll be easier for me, but I don´t know how it works

Along with the display of thumbs at the moment. Should I make them wider so that the text goes under the image or should I just leave things as they are? I´m not sure. With the wide images it should turn out ok, but with images that are more equall in width and height it would look strange. Easy solution, just use the wide with low height images. But sometimes it´s not what I want.

But let´s take a look at the whole thing.

Frontpage

A big headline along with 4 posts are featured. I took the colors from the premium theme and alas, I find that the colors are really neat and nice looking. Along with the header in this case poor Kyou it feels as if it´s a good point to start. I might change it to another layout and then it´ll look something like this. Haven´t decided yet.

Along comes a few selected categories, as I feel that those the most important or I just want to show them of. Screens and Visual Novels are good since if people visit they can part look at the delicious wallpaper I´m using and for Visual Novels, well it´s self explanatory. People need to learn more about them.

Posts

Post are giving a custom field and thus an image and a thumbnail. The problem lies as with the headline I might change that to a wide image instead. At this point I do not know what I should do at this point. Comments and such are in #a00 as I just simply love that color. As you can see they aren´t gray but red, but I don´t have the HTML code to change it into it´s real color. You just have to trust me.

There are just 5 posts at each page at this point. I might change that when I get more posts written, but as it is now I´m satisfied with it.

Footer

Recent posts, so you´ll see the correct order as otherwise the featured and headlines don´t appear in that order. A most commented section as it is kinda nice to see which post has the most comments and a counter for the post that people are most interested in and thus come to this blog for. I´ll be damned if I´m not going to erase that damn pokemon post soon.

Otherwise a pretty ordinary footer, links to wordpress.org, some admin stuff and cred to the guy who did this great theme. Then comes my own copyright stuff along with some more cred. I tend to link to those who helped me. I still need to make a special link and credit Karura for helping me so much in the earlier days. I´m terribly sorry you haven´t been given enough credit this time around. I´m just to lazy

Default Post Avatar

For trailers and other things there is just no way for me to find a possible image to fit. Therefore there will be a default avatar used. It might change in the future though. But I do want Amanda there so I´ll probably just change to different types of images with her if I do change the avatar for the default posts.

The reason for why I choose Amanda from Blassreiter is that I enjoy whenever she comes on screen. Her pink hair, her good attitude and so makes me want to get to know her better. To try and exterminate her dumb fucking idiotic thoughts. Why did she adopt Malek? But that´s for another time. Good sexy images of Amanda will probably be used as the default post avatar from now on. So if you see her, you´ll know that there won´t be any image in the post itself.

Gravatars

I decided to try and make them bigger. So now it is a 100×100 avatar instead of the ordinary 55×55 one. After having had trouble I fixed it so now it is a big 100×100 avatar. Which I think looks pretty nice really.

Final thoughts

Hell it´s fun to work with wordpress themes. And thanks to xamplite working this time around I can work with the themes offline if I want to instead of having my visitors sit trough the ugly changes. Sure not everything is done, but most of the stuff is ready and working as it should, just some minor things left for me to decide and then work out how to do.

With the help of my friends of course.

Now I´m of to write the final things in my schoolwork for tomorrow.

edit – I´ll keep the headlines wide. From the small image it will work wonders even with square based images. Now all I need to complete is the sidebar and after that it´ll be even sexier than it is now. But how to solve it? Make another page? A “Other Stuff” page where I´ll place links and other stuff that isn´t really belonging somewhere else?

Back to the drawing board on that one

edit 2 – Posts where I don´t have a image for will get a default postavatar in the listings on the frontpage and in the archive.

edit 3 – Blogroll and some other stuff got it´s own page to leave it outside of the sidebar as it kinda wrecked the design to have that long blogroll to the right. Now it´s more fluent and for me it looks better.
