Artist Focus – Takashi Takeuchi

first

The work of the man behind Arcueid, Akiha, Saber, Rin, and countless other great characters.

Takashi Takeuchi is the main man behind Type-Moon’s art. There some other artists involved with Type-Moon, such as Takenashi Eri (of the Kannagi fame) and Koyama Hirokazu (who illustrated the DDD novels). But for now, Takeuchi is known best.

Tsukihime and Fate/stay night remain his most distinct works. If no one knows about the Fate visual novel, they atleast know of the anime. If no one knows of the Tsukihime visual novel they atleast know the anime the manga by Sasaki Shonen.

His art work features a nice soft style. The ultimate appeal of mosts artists work is that their art should be pretty to look at. I can’t really define Takeuchi’s style as “moe”, as his characters do have a serious look to them

For example, look at the images below.

He’s clearly able to capture a wide range of faces as well as a consistent style of lines.

His earlier works feature slightly more angles (ie. the lines are much straighter).

And as with most artists. His work has become much more detailed.

COMPARISON

Not the same character. But they look similar enough so you can see the art evolution

His style appears to be in the middle of another evolution. The work for MELTY BLOOD: Actress Again is giving some more stylish renditions of his characters.

This compares the first Melty Blood’s Arcueid and Actress Again’s Arcueid

Arc compare

Alot can change in seven years.
