Distractions/Interuprtions – Irritating or needed?
Warning, rambling will follow with no sense of ground or anything to hold against. It will be loops and just babbling but as I´m distracted and irritated while I write this it should get something trough anyway.
What is the most irritating distraction/interuption thing you encounter in your everyday life?
As I life at home with two dogs and both parents there are a lot of things that can disturb or interupt me.
Some examples: Almost getting thrown out of the computer chair thanks to the younger dog almost pushing me out of the chair. Or sneaking in so that he is right next to me and then he barks a childish bark that hurts me ears trough the high music that I usually play to give myself some privacy of thought.
And he won´t quit trying to get me to follow him when he wants something, oh no. If pushing doesn´t work then he barks, if barking does work he starts almost like crying or start to take something from my bed or he just does something that he knows will grab my attention, then he runs out of the room with me after him…
A fun game for him, irritating and disturbing for me.
Having to work quietly sometimes is not an option. And that will distrub my parents and they will not take lightly to it. And that is one of the many reasons for why I almost daily all wake time if I work with the computer I use headphones.
Sometimes when I´ve struck my head against the screen in irritation I almost welcome him that he will get my mind of the current problem for a while.
When I´m playing a game and I´m up against a boss or like playing BlazBlue online and it´s a heated match that will make me lose concentration or get a bit slappy for just a milli second I´m not so pleased with anyone disturbing me.
My ears are pretty good so I can hear almost everything that happends in the whole house from my own room. It´s not a big house but still, it´s irritating to hear your parent´s arguing with eachothers even though they know I can hear them and that I will be irritated if it goes on for too long. Also fun fact, some cases where I haven´t been playing games for a long time, the very first seconds after I´ve started playing my parent´s starts to argue.
That is really irritating, as I don´t have the luxury of increasing the volume of the game since then my dad will storm in and ask me if I live here alone?
So I must keep the sound down at all times. Which makes my ears better, but when I sit and play a game that I really want to hear the voices from and the BGM, it is disturbing to hear what my dad is watching on TV. It´s the same when I want to work and for the rare occasions that I don´t use the headphones, then I can clearly hear what he is watching. Which is disturbing for me if I want to write a important essay or code.
I also want to throw the question out to everyone who reads: What are your most disturbing interuptions that you encounter almost every day? Is it roommates being noisy and not leaving you alone or is it someone above or under you playing music so high you hear them? Anything is welcome so I can get the understanding that I´m not the only one that is interupted or disturbed when I at most want to be left alone.
The only time of the day that I can do stuff without being disturbed by dogs or parents is during the night. So my time that I spend awake varies from anything between 7AM to 4AM. The most recent hours are thought 1PM to 4AM. And half the time of that is not spent sleeping, it´s spent twisting and turning in bed trying to fall asleep. Since thanks to disturbances during the day I can´t sleep.
Yes this is one big bickering post from me about how I want to have some nice and quiet without having to be awake in the middle of the night, sorry for that just need to get this out of my chest. Thanks for reading this far.
I want to end this post with a question: Imagine you are working on something very important, then you look up from your work for a little while and see two girls dressed like the post image(or some very muscular and nice looking guy for the girls, don´t know what they would drop their jaw to). Would that count as something disturbing and a interuption or would you be glad to see them?

The most disturbing times of the day here is after school, when I can always hear my mum talking when I’m trying to study. I usually have my headphones on but I can still hear her even when I’ve told her several times to let me concentrate on my studies. If it’s noisy downstairs when I go to sleep I usually go to bed with my iPod to bed or some handhold radio to distract me from the other noise.
Why not try locking your dogs out of your room then, or letting them outside in times when you most need the peace? Or perhaps asking your dad to turn the TV down and explain why you need the quiet for important essays and such?

That kind of disturbance is really irritating when you want to study.
If I could I would get in bed with a music player, but that isn´t working since I can´t sleep with the headphones on me. In-ear or enclosing my whole ear makes no difference, I just can´t sleep with it. Setting a radio player is also a no no for me, wouldn´t work since the amout of sound needed to drown everything else would mean I wouldn´t be able to sleep myself :p
If keeping them outside my room would solve the problem I would.
But if I lock myself in my room one of the dogs stand and rasp against the door when he wants something, or he barks trough the door when he wants to come in…
If they are outside, then if they find something that they don´t like, they bark.
Which my dear parents ignore “I couldn´t hear them barking” is what one of them usually says while the other yells “Why does it always have to be me?”
In conclussion, they don´t give a crap about the dogs being outside barking hard as hell. Which I can hear quite easily. With my headphones on and music.
So it might have been a possible solution for other people, not for me.
The phone. The sound of the phone ringing (it’s right next to my PC) annoys me to no end. I usually keep my mobile on silent with the vibration turned on, so everyone I’m interested in talking to calls me on that. Unfortunately, this means that whenever the phone rings, it’s usually some very unwelcome person like a telemarketer or something.
Haha, I work best at night, too. That’s usually when I get most of my writing work done. My place is pretty quiet nowadays, though, which is something I’m thankful for.
The phone rarely bothers me. At least when we are home all five of us. That´s three humans and two dogs.
My mobile is something that rarely rings so that doesn´t bother me much at all. When it does ring it is usually something important.
During the night everything is calm around here, which is prime work time. But it does throw my day rythm off. Which isn´t that good.
My place varies from quiet to nonquiet every day, every hour. In both good and bad.
