Devil May Cry 4
A new game with Dante, attitude and hellish moves? hell yes!!
Atleast that´s what I bought the game for anyway. But when you press the “new game” button you´re faced with a horrible scene, Dante crashing trough the ceiling of a church, shooting the biskop straight in the head, splashing blood all over his face. As the corpse pile up we catch the eye of another youth: Nero and Kyrie, who run from Dante, that´s it untill Kyrie is faced head on with Dante, this makes Nero lose his cool, doing a jumpkick straight into Dante´s face.
After this we get to know Nero, how close in resemblance to Dante he is, with a smart mouth and the whole “lone wolf aura” that also Dante has. The tutorial on how to use Nero is boring, but essential, since he do have one move that Dante doesn´t: Buster/Snatch.
Using his right hand Nero can grab enemies and throw them, making for a cool finish to a long combo or just to have fun. Snatch is a way of getting far of enemies close to Nero with just a seconds notice, or to bring Nero close to enemies that are to heavy for him to grab.
But enough about the tutorial. Back to the game itself.
Story
Quite boring, as there are two stories built into one with Nero and Dante, or rather just Nero´s story, but with the exception that he get´s captured and Dante has to but in. Boring and quite understandable move from Capcom. But oh well. This game isn´t about the story.
In short, Nero loves Kyrie, Kyrie has a overprotective brother who is also the leader of the knights protecting the city. Nero has demonic powers a right arm which he hides from Kyrie. After going trough some stages, Creedo(Kyrie´s brother) and Nero fight it out, since the leader of the church and Creedo´s master demands that Nero is captured.
Just when the fight is ended, Kyrie watches Nero standing over the defeated Creedo, and watching Nero´s arm… Suprised and scared she takes a step back, gets captured and then used as hostage to finally capture Nero which is then used as the motor for a big statue…
Love is wonderful while watching a show, but when it takes this turn with Nero it´s just to predictable that it gets boring.
But back on track, while Nero is sleeping in the “Saviour” dreaming about Kyrie and how he will save her we get to play as Dante. Who backtracks every single line that Nero already has visited… boring as hell and really irritating.
Then Dante saves Nero and we play the last two stages as Nero where he confronts the very same man that Dante killed in the intro scene.
Done.
Then we mix in humans wanting to create a utopia so they turn themselves into demons and create a big Saviour so that they can kill of every demon in existance, the way to do this? Open the Demon Gates to release the demons into our world and then kill them.
Humans are foolish right?
Graphics
I don´t really care about graphics, but Dante has never looked so good Neither has Kyrie, for Trish and Lady, well I won´t comment on them. I find it disturbing to see them behave like they do.
Since I´ve already talked about the sexism in DMC I don´t have to mention Gloria…
Otherwise most of the FMVs are great and fun to watch. When Dante first aquired Lucifer or the Musical with the mad scientist are just hilarious.
Gameplay
Oh my God! This game is fun!! Nero´s snatching and buster abilities make the game so much fun, grab a marionett, slam him down to the earth, do a three hit combo, hit him up into the air, follow, keep beating the hell out of him and then as the final attack, throw him back into the earth. A good stylish combo and a good stylish score
Dante has the ordinary set of abilities, Ebony & Ivory, Rebellion, Gilgamesh is the new close combat gear and Lucifer being the new addition to the cast, which I find a bit hard to use at this moment. But I´ll have to try it out more and then maybe I can get the hang of it.
Music
As usual, the techno or what you call it type of music. The only thing good with it was the later half of the ED theme, “Shall Never Surrender” which I´ve mentioned before.
But I don´t really listen to the music, it´s more the soundeffects that are cool and great to listen to when playing DMC games, and DMC4 isn´t any worse than the other games in the series.
Results/Summary
A great game to add to the DMC series. More Dante or more Nero would have been great since that way you wouldn´t have had to replay the stages like you had to do now. But for the action part, I haven´t played such an amusing game since I played DMC3: Special Edition a couple of years ago. It´s that fun. Not as great as DMC3: SE but way better than God of War and Ninja Gaiden.

I’m a new comer to the DMC world. absolutely ZERO knowledge of the 3 DMC titles wherein Dante’s the Hero.
Anyway, DMC4 is my first DMC title to play and loved every second of it. Nero is the BANG! boo~yah! and oh, Dante as well! I love his Pandora briefcase! LOL! If in Super Dante mode, I can crush my enemies in seconds with that! LOL! By far, am loving the graphics, although my current gfx card is only an 8500 GT, but thanks to overclocking anyway. hehe.
I hope in DMC5, both of them would return, not just Nero.
Oh yeah, the end theme “Shall Never Surrender” is the BEST! 6/5 stars! n____n
Thanks!
try Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition. Dante and Vergil and they basically kick the ass out of Nero and Dante in DMC4
It´s that freaking good. Graphics isn´t important, gameplay and combos are everything and in that, DMC3 and DMC4 are gold. Stay away from DMC2 and play the first and original.
So, short recap: DMC is good, DMC2 is bad, stay away from it. DMC3:SE is Platina and DMC4 is gold
For DMC5, if they want to use Lady, make her into the good looking schoolgirl she was in DMC3, not this greedy bitch she was in DMC4. And Trish, well keep her but give her more clothes :p
Nero is welcome back. His snatch ability rocks.
