Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
Intro
Prince Laharl, the sole heir to the king of the Netherworld has awaken after a two year long nap. His fathers vassals has strayed from the castle and only a few remain, as sole heir Laharl sets out to grab what is rightfully his: The title Overlord of the Netherworld
Story
Laharl awakens when his vassal Etna is trying to wake him up with a gun. As he learns the truth; two years ago his father died and the Netherworld went to hell, no rules and everything that matters is brute strength he decides to take over as the new ruler of the Netherworld, but to do this he must aquire strength.
Thanks to Etna he has a chance, her Prinny Squad are always up to any task, as long as they get paid.
So come on, join prince Laharl as he sets out to become Overlord.
Characters
On his way he’ll meet up with many persons:
Etna, the loyal but violent vassal.
Love-freak Flonne, the Angel who comes to assasinate his father.
The honest but not to bright Gordon, Defender of Earth and his sidekicks; Jennifer the busty babe and Thursday, the multipurpose robot.
The enemies will be tough, charming and not to bright:
Meet Mid-boss, or Dark Adonis as he wishes to be called, the charming devil with good looks.
The Archangel Vulcanus is tough, but is he really an Angel???
Graphics
In terms of graphics, all that matters is it being nice to look at and wow, Disgaea may just use simple 2d and 3d but hey, it looks terrific. The facial expressions are a real killer, hopefully you’ll laugh at them like there is no tomorrow.
Even sexy demons are available for the horny one. They are well-equiped, I´ll give em that. Or the cute Nekodemons, but beware, they have quite a strong punch so don´t expect to get some quality-time with them. If you´re not afraid of getting blown away…
Music
This must be Disgaea’s worst subject, I did remember the music scores after playing trough this game but it isn’t great or bad, it’s just music. Not great nor bad, just plain music that is ok to listen to but it isn’t something you’ll put on your mp3player. Maybe “Red Moon” but one song from the whole game?
Gameplay
The gameplay is awesome, thanks to it being a strategic RPG you’ll tear your hair half of the time when you’re presented with the task at hand. Strategy is the key, or powerleveling, it’s all up to you.
Like most of the strategic games out there you have a set amount of moves to make, where you move, select what to do and then execute the command. If you move a lot of characters against the same enemy you’ll be making combos where the characters gang up on the poor enemy.
When you’re not ripping your hair of I’l be damn if you are´t going to be laughing, all items have a description you´ll laugh at, the conversations nearly killed me when I played it the first time, I laughed so hard I couldn´t believe myself!
Grade
10/10 – Buy this game, you´ll play it like a maniac when you get it and thanks to all things to do, all tricks and all gimicks this game will last forever, the question is: How long do you last?
