Chapter 1 – Dreams
I do not know how much of it was fantasy or real, but there is one summer that will forever be special to me, a summer where I experienced sorrow and happiness.
It all started one evening. A couple of friends had invited me to a month long summer vacation. They had found a house by the beach and was planning on taking it easy there. Playing on the beach, having some parties and just relaxing, in short to have fun. It was all guys that rented the place so they can be a bit predictable sometimes. Not that it mattered, I wanted to get away from my ordinary life filled with studies so I was happy to join them.
The first day had passed where we settled in and when the evening came we started to drink, I had a bit to much to drink and from earlier experience I knew that going outside to get a breath of fresh air would make me feel better, so that´s what I did.
It was a beautifull fullmoon and the skies were clear so it was almost as bright as day and perfect for taking a stroll on the beach. Dressed in a sleveless t-shirt and shorts, the cool breeze making my head clearer I walked on the beach, not looking for anything special.
For some reason I thought I heard somone singing. The song was so sad I had to see who was singing, so I followed my ears and then I saw her a bit out in the water, throwing her brown hair upwards as she stood up in the ocean. With the amount of alcohol I had drunk during the evening I doubted my eyes, but I could swear that I saw some wolf like ears and a tail. When I got closer she turned around and looked at me, her wine red eyes had a eternal sorrow in them but they were still very beautiful.
Just as I opened my mouth to call to her, I was interrupted by Steve´s voice.
“Aidan, so this is where you are, I was looking for you”
“Yeah, I felt that I had drunk to much so I need to cool my head off. But you didn´t see the girl out in the sea?”
“Man, how much did you drink? There are no girl in the sea Aidan”
“But Steve, you must see her, she´s right there”
Turning around pointing at where I had seen the girl standing I got a light shock, just as Steve said there was noone there. No fotprints in the sand or anything to prove that a girl had ever been there.
“Come on Aidan, no more alcohol for you tonight. Let´s go back and have you start on drinking water for the rest of the evening.”
“You´re right, but I´m sure I saw a girl taking a bath there. But apparently she didn´t want to talk with me”
“Sure sure Aidan, let´s go back.”
“Yeah, let´s do that and I promise I won´t drink any more alcohol tonight.”
“Sounds good to me”
Together we walked up towards the house to continue the party, the others drinking alcohol and me drinking water to get a better head for the day after.
The night though wasn´t as pleasant. I dreamt that I was hunted by wolves for the most of the night, it was a long drawn out sprinting battle with me trying escape from them. Just when I thought I had gained a bit of space from them I could feel a heavy weight on my back, my face hit the ground and I could feel as a sharp pain in my legs, the wolves had started their final attack.
Almost screaming I sat up, cold sweating in my bed, awake. It took a while before I could feel my legs again, it had been that real type of a dream. When the feeling of my legs had returned, I laid down again and tried to get some more sleep since I was still drunk and I really needed the sleep.
This time it was a better dream, I found the same girl from the ocean that I had seen earlier that evening. Her wise red whine sorrowfull eyes looked at me, ears that stood up as if they belonged to a wolf, her tail very much delightful to look at but at this time it was sweeping back and forth angrily. There she stood, looking at me and then she finally spoke:
“I´m amazed that you found me but I would ask you to stop looking for me, you won´t have to feel any pain that way.”
“You know, if I hadn´t found you here then I might have thought it as just something I imagined. But now that I have seen you again I know that you exist and thus, I will not stop searching for you. If you want a reason then it is because you´ve stolen my heart”
With a sad look on her face she turned away from me and started walking away from me. After a while she spoke one last time: “This is going to hurt both of us and I´m sorry for that” and then she dissapeared.
